In this unprecedented era of financial turbulence and global uncertainty, the ability of a leader to engage and motivate his employees and to be the voice for his company have become as important, if not much more important, than knowing the technical aspects of business.

More and more, CFOs and finance professionals are turned to for leadership and guidance in these trying times, and we are expected to talk but not all of us were trained to speak publicly, let alone speak to inspire, to exhort and to engage.


The good news is this skill can be learned.  Who knows this better than Ms. Quin SQ Thong, our fellow FCCA and Steering Committee Member Shanghai? She confessed that public speaking used to terrify her, giving stress and sleepless nights. But now, she is a sought after speaker in international forums, including in the UK and to present in prestigious events such as the Economist Group's CFO Conferences and ACCA forums.

Speaker:
Ms. Quin SQ Thong is an unconventional chartered accountant. Holding four chartered accountancy licenses from Malaysia(1) to Hong Kong(1) to United Kingdoms(2), she is also well-versed in human resources and motivation practices as well as client relationship management. An astute corporate strategist and business planner; she has over 15 years of proven track record at C-level with a number leading multinational companies. The recent position being DTZ戴德梁行, Greater China’s leading real estate advisory firm, she served as their North Asia Chief Operating Officer.

At the same time and very unlike a CFO starting out from Pricewaterhousecoopers, Quin expends energy in artistic pursuits, such as being a keen cartoonist and artist, a mini-blog writer with over 30,000 fans in social networking, a trainer for the art of public presentation, creative thinking and communications.

The marrying of the ‘right and left brain’ results in truly exceptional and innovative ways of looking at and solving an old problem. For example, the courses she designed and facilitated for MBA schools are not only informative and purposeful, but highly practical, creative and insightful for the MBA students. In 2011, she was voted Best Mentor by Shanghai University MBA. Apart from being an adjunct lecturer in MBA schools in China for business strategy and planning module, Quin frequently speaks in international forums on the topics of business process improvement, employee motivation and talent management.

Quin holds an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management, is a Certified Master Coach and PRISM neuroscience brain mapping practitioner. In 2006 she was the first Asian to receive a scholarship award from the Centre for Creative Leadership, USA.
