Background:
The state of the macro economy has changed. Once unheard of, it is now commonplace to learn of leading economies having to deal with issues such as climate change; biodiversity loss; scarcity of fuel, food and water; and unstable financial systems. It is clear that a new economic system needs to be developed to avoid large scale global disaster and one that will help alleviate the risks as well as provide opportunity for growth and prosperity. This is the green economy.
Working in the green economy will involve collaboration and cooperation on the part of multiple stakeholders including business, government, and the civil society. Businesses will need to adapt the way they operate in areas such as governance, risk identification, reporting, product sustainability, resource use, strategy development, metrics and business model creation. The role of the accountant will evolve by contributing to greening economic sectors and managing natural capital: both require the collection of reliable data, so that targets can be set and progress monitored. Investment behaviour will adapt to reflect the new risks and opportunities open to companies.
Join the debate:
ACCA and WWF will bring together leading experts in the fields of business, accountancy, investment, and non-governmental organisations to discuss the green economy and its impact, influence and effect on these specific stakeholder groups
The panels of experts will discuss:
· the current and future economic landscape
· the opportunities for business in the green economy
· the shift in investment practices
· the skills and knowledge required for accountants.
Speakers will include:
Rachel Jackon, head of sustainability, ACCA
Dr. Li Lin, deputy chief representative, WWF
Kevin Ao, founding partner, Golden Rock Capital
Peiyuan Guo, co-founder, Syntao
Yugao Xu, executive vice president & CFO, CNOOC Energy Technology & Services Limited
