BASF mulls delay of MDI plant in China
Mar. 16, 2009 (China Knowledge) - BASF, the world's largest chemical company, is considering postponing construction of a methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) plant in Chongqing City, southwestern China, sources reported. Previously, the Germany-based company's China subsidiary made an announcement saying that the global MDI market is likely to shrink in 2009 and that China will be no exception.

BASF AG, the world’s biggest chemical producer, could postpone building schedule in Chongqing, China, of a project to produce methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI), in anticipation of a decline in global demand this year. Planned with a production capacity of 400,000 tpa of crude MDI, the facility was originally scheduled to commence operations in 2010. BASF received initial approval from the Ministry of Environmental Protection for the plant in January, and is awaiting permission from the National Development and Reform Commission, China’s top economic planner. |
